This is the logo I drew 9 years ago:
This is a Southwest Native American pictograph. The circular spiral indicates migration from an existing home (village) and the square spiral indicates the establishment of a new home (village).
Isn’t that what we do in life? We wander from where we are until we settle somewhere we feel at home — until the urge to migrate/change/wander strikes us again.
My first wandering here was into the world of collage art and journalling. I joined an art group, I joined art swaps, I had fun.
Then the writing of the journals turned towards poetry. I joined a small poetry group in a local cafe which I walked to every week no matter what the weather. We began to go to readings. Then the group’s leader went onto other things, the group dispersed, the cafe closed. I continued going to monthly poetry readings until that dispersed too; later that cafe also closed. I still write poetry, though sporadically. I’m going to start putting up a few here (with dates! — so I can remember my life around them).
Through it all I travelled on vacations to new places and sights that sometimes ended up in poetry and often in photographs. Some of those may come back to here.
At home I gardened, canned, brewed, followed my spirit into various groups about town. Maybe I’ll share some of that.
I’m seventy and so far life always goes on.
